Our Story

Howard Caver accepted his call to preach at Anderson Street Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor William Tucker.  While at Anderson Street, he was called to start a new church.  God gave him the motto, “showing the love and power of God”.  And this new church would strive meet the material as well as spiritual needs of many people.

Pastor Howard Caver, his wife Clara, his children Michelle and Dimitri, and his mother, Mrs. Marie Caver, the founders of WMBC, held the first service on Sunday, October 4, 1981.  It was held at the McDonald YMCA on E. Berry St. in Fort Worth. After a few weeks of meeting, God sent Rev. R.L. Rogers, pastor of Harvey Ave. Baptist Church, who adopted Pastor Howard Caver as his son in the ministry and helped to officially organize World Missionary Baptist Church on August 27, 1982.

Pastor Rogers suggested that we use the Old Harvey Ave. Baptist Church building on Davis St. so we could set our own meeting times, and we moved to that building.  About a year later,  Pastor Rogers found a church building for us to rent at 1201 E. Bessie St.  That’s the building directly across the street from where we are now. We rented the building for $500.00 a month for about 5 years.  In January 1987 we had to leave that building because it was sold to another church since we could not afford to buy the building.  A couple of Sundays we had joint services with Greater New Light Baptist Church, Rev. Jewel Grandberry, pastor, and Calvary Church of God and Christ, Elder G.W. Pope, pastor.  Next, pastor Caver offered his own home as a church house until God blessed us with a building of our own.

A group of Christians from McKinney Memorial Bible Church who had worked with us on many WMBC’s outreach programs came to pastor Caver and suggested that we get volunteers to build a church house for World Missionary Baptist Church.  After one and a half years, with help from about 245 volunteers from 7 different religious denominations, and offerings and gifts totaling $63,000.  The building we are now in, 1200 E. Bessie Street was completed, debt free.  The congregation moved in April 1988. God performed MANY financial miracles and He sent many dedicated and skilled volunteers.

In 1994 Pastor Howard Caver and the members of WMBC founded Ekklesia Christian School.  The school was started to give families of all incomes access to a quality Christian education, and to develop a generation of servant leaders for Christ.  It served the Fort Worth Community for 24 years.

WMBC took on an nursing home, and named it Immanuel’s Health Care in 1998, and ran the full time facility until it was sold in the spring of 2015.

In 1999 WMBC sponsored the published music ministry of then, Deacon Dimitri Caver that continues today.

In December 2001 Pastor howard caver published his 1st book, Unhandcuffing God. Later he published, the Unhandcuffing God Study Guide, Unhandcuffing God II, and a book named, Always Led By God’s Grace.  Books that still garner feedback to this day.

The influence of World Missionary Baptist Church has begun to spread far and wide.  WMBC has helped to start 5 churches, and supported many more.  Seventeen preachers have been licensed, nine have been ordained, and least four have served as senior pastors. Through the various ministries of the church, over 400 souls have been saved, and God has honored us to baptize over 300 of them.

In February of 2013, Senior Pastor Howard Caver responded to God’s call to resign as senior pastor and Dimitri Caver became the 2nd Senior Pastor of WMBC. He was officially installed in March of 2013. Pastor Howard Caver passed away in January 2019, and 1st Lady Clara Caver passed away in April of 2020.  They left a legacy of faith, service, and most of all, love.

Dr. Hoszel West, Jr. was installed as Assistant Pastor in August 2021, and Minister Gloria Alston was installed as Church Mother in October 2021.

Despite being a small congregation, WMBC survived the pandemic of 2020, even though in person services were cancelled for over a year.  In 2023, Dr. West was called to be a senior pastor of another congregation, and Rev. Tony Camell was installed as our Assistant Pastor on July 2, 2023.

Today, at WMBC, the Word of God continues to be taught plainly, members continued to be discipled, and the church continues to live up to its motto of, “showing the love and power of God”, while anticipating with faith, what God will do through us in the future.

Our Principles & Mission

World Missionary Baptist Church is an independent congregation that partners with other Christian congregations and adheres to the teachings of the Bible.

We believe that all people are in need of salvation, and Jesus is the only way to God (John 14:6, Acts 4:12).

We believe that we are to love, worship, and praise God sincerely and fervently. (Matthew 22:37)

We believe that discipleship is a crucial element in living out a Christian life. (Luke 9:23-25)

We believe that we are God's representatives on Earth and we are to be holy as GOD is holy. (1 Peter 1:16)

We believe that we have been anointed to impact our family, our city, our country, and our world.  (1 John 2:20, Acts 1:8)

We believe in evangelizing the lost, encouraging the saints, and empowering the needy. (Matthew 28:20, 1 Thessalonians 5:11, Ruth 2, Matthew 25:35-40)

We believe in all the spiritual gifts mentioned in the Bible.  (1 Corinthians 12)

We believe in loving all people because GOD loves all people. (John 3:16, 1 John 4:8)

We believe in hating sin because GOD hates sin. (Proverbs 6:16-19, Proverbs 8:13, Revelations 2:6)

We believe that we have been called to promote and encourage unity in the Body of Christ across racial and denominational lines. (John 17:20-21)
